Nothing to Fear

Well it was said that we have "Nothing to fear but fear itself." Biblically, we know that "there is no fear in love," and that "perfect love casts out fear." (See the book of 1st John.) Since love is the most cardinal of all Christian virtues, fear is our greatest vice.

I know that if I were to express my opinions on certain topics at the moment, I would be labelled "transphobic" or "homophobic." The root "phobic" means fear. However, I am not afraid of the people who espouse these various prefixes. I only express my opinions because I love them and I want what is best for them and for the culture at large.

I want to consider love. I don't love these people with feeling, or rather, the feeling comes and goes. However, I do love them with understanding. I see them as persons in need of understanding and friendship, persons who do not understand the nature of love. These persons can thus only react in fear.

What is your definition of love? If you don't have one, you can't live. It can't be a feeling, for love never fails; feeling comes and goes. It can't be only in the good times, for loves suffers long. It can't be only for perfection, because love has to be kind. It can't live outside of God's plan for it because it is divine, exemplified by Jesus Christ. That's my view of love.

Most of our problems with each other come from a skewed view of love. If we live our lives by our fears and feelings, then we will never know love. But if we dive deep into a greater Love revealed in solid Word, we have found a source that transcends the popular poster love of our day.
