Originality
I looked at the moon and
felt its perfection
But that had already been said
In a book.
I looked at the sky and felt
Unknowable hugeness in a wide expanse of blue
But that had already been said
In a book.
I looked at myself
And felt my song running pale and shallow
But strong.
But that had already been said
In a poem.
I looked at You, Christ,
And felt and saw more than I
Can hold, and though it has
Already been said in a Book,
I feel and know it newer and truer
Than all else.
